Welcome to Samantha King's NAMIWalks page. I have created this fundraising page because NAMI, and the work they do, is very important to me. As you probably know, I suffer from schizoaffective disorder. It is a chronic mental illness, but thanks to the successes of medication, therapy, and love and support from my friends and family most days I barely notice it is present in my life. But not everyone who suffers from a mental illness is as fortunate as I am. Speaking about those who have illnesses on the schizophrenic specturm, about 1/3 do not respond to medication at all. It is a gruesome daily struggle for them to put their mind at ease for five minutes before another disturbing symptom appears to distress them. What I went through for months undiagnosed I can't possibly imagine having gone years. This organization will help save and educate those suffering from mental illnesses find solace in an upside down world and will help fund expansions of NAMI resources for mental health consumers like myself.

Update 2/21/13- Well, it looks like I'm gonna make my $1,000 goal easily by May, so I've doubled it to $2,000! Got big plans including fundraising events at WCC to gain more donations and potentially MAYBE more walkers. It's going to be great!
